As long-term housing options become scarcer, victims are staying longer in emergency domestic violence shelters. As a result, shelters are frequently full and must turn families away.
During our pre-launch, we are assisting Thrive members with locating affordable housing. If needed, we will also assist in furnishing their new home with a community housewarming. There are three ways to participate in the community housewarming: donate furniture or household items, purchase an item off their personalized wish list, or make a donation through their community housewarming button.
In December 2022, a single mom/survivor, time expired in the shelter where she and three children had lived. Not able to secure safe affordable housing, they temporarily moved into a motel. For nearly a year, every day has been a fight to pay the daily motel bill and find affordable housing while working a seasonal job. Despite the hurdles, she has done it. This mom kept the family from living on the streets and found an affordable rental home.
Next week they move in and have practically nothing to furnish their new safe space. They are in immediate need of a bed, kitchen table, and other essentials. There are three ways to help them begin to thrive:
1. Amazon Wish List:
2. Monetary Donation:
3. Drop off Furniture and Household Items:
If you have gently used furniture to donate and live in New Jersey, please contact us at info@thriveafterdv.org
In August of 2023, we helped our first survivor find permanent affordable housing. Saving the family of three from elongated couch surfing and a gas-guzzling commute to work. However, affordable housing is only one part of the solution. This family has so many other needs in several areas.
Now that we have secured most of the larger pieces of furniture for them, they need a few more items. Take a look at the wish list to help them Thrive!
